Dental Crowns

by on November 6, 2009

Dental crowns or caps as they used to be called are protective coverings for your teeth. When you teeth are damaged through either decay, cracks or fracture a crown may be the treatment your dentist recommends for you. What determines if the dentist will recommend a crown is the amount of damage the tooth has. If the damage is minimal a dental filling is normally the first course of action. If the tooth has too much damage so that a filling is not a viable, long-term solution many times a crown is recommended. The problem is the price between a filling and crown is significant. In some cases a crown can be 10x the cost of a filling.
Here’s where a dental vacation can really benefit you. Because the cost of crowns in countries like Mexico and Thailand are a 1/3 to 1/4 the cost in many countries you can quickly more than save the cost of taking a trip for your dental care. If your crowns are not urgent in nature it is the perfect scenario. Don’t ignore the problem it will only get worse. Do your research, see if there are more cost effective options in other countries. You will be able to get your needed care and have a great vacation!
