Canadians to India for Health Care

by on December 5, 2009

There appears to be some collaboration for Canada to India healthcare. Indian consul-general Preeti Saran has noted that the government of India has a small collaberation with Sick Kids Hospital, where Indian doctors are attached to the hopital in Canada for one to two years.
It has also been noted that provincial healthcare systems, such as OHIP in Ontario, generally don’t cover the costs of medical tourism, but some patients have appealed and won the cost of treatment overseas. The provinces are starting to cover more and more treatments overseas. Hip replacements can cost as much as $35,000 to $40,000 in the US. The cost in India is just $14,000, including air fare, taxes and post op stay at a 5 star beach resort.
The implications of this are very positive for dental tourism and dental vacations. If more insurers in more countries are allowing benefits to be paid at clinics outside the home country it will give patients, dental and health, more options for their care. What’s more is that the care can be received for less if the patient wishes to take that option.
