by on December 15, 2009

India has been considered one of the leading countries in dental and medical tourism. It is now moving into a new area called “medical outsourcing”. This is where subcontractors provide services to overburdened medical care systems in western countries.
India has go so far as to leagally consider the treatment of foreign patients an “export”. This means it will be eligible for all fiscal incentives given to export earnings. Government and private sector studies in India estimate that medical tourism and dental tourism could bring between $1B and $2B US into the country by 2012. The report further sites that healthcare tourism in India is growing by 30% per year. India’s education system is supporting this growth by graduating not only computer programers and engineers but also an estimated 20,000 to 30,000 doctors per year.
The first patients to use the India dental and medical facilities were Indian expatriots who returned home for treatment. This has grown as now patients from Europe , the Middle East and Canada have gone for treatment. The US is viewed as a market with huge growth potential for the India healthcare system.
